Producing allows for all of Shea’s interests to come together. She loves putting together events and projects that are detail-oriented and fun.

The Howdy Cat Comedy Show is a monthly standup event at Young Ethel’s in Park Slope Brooklyn. Each show is hosted and produced by Shea Vassar and features a lineup of diverse comedians. The theme is a 70s cowboy aesthetic in an attempt to reclaim the whole ‘country’ vibe that historically originated with Black, Indigenous, women, immigrants, and the queer community.

Making sure every detail is in place for important days is exactly how this Virgo finds joy. Intentional and personal touches are vital for moments that are supposed to be remembered. For example, for my own wedding: I didn’t want a guest book that just collected dust on a shelf. Because my partner and I met in New York the summer of 2016, I found a subway map from that year and had guests sign it. This map is now framed and hung up in our apartment.

The same intention was revisited in 2023 for the memorial party my Dad requested after my mom’s death. It was a celebration where over 115 people were invited to Pensacola, Florida. Speeches were made, a band was hired, a slideshow with a mix of videos and photos was on constant display. It was a party my mom would have been proud of.
